What do you have with yours, if you have them?
They were on offer in Costco and given our family Swedish connection, and the fact we've never had them, I'm going to give them a go this week.
I'm going to make a savoury cream sauce and add a bit of either cranberry or blackcurrant jam, and serve it on top of mash...unless someone comes up with something better.
Hmm, himself rather fancies that one mamya.
As there are enough meatballs in the pack to feed the entire Swedish army, I think Islays (which sounds very similar to the one I was contemplating) can wait till next time.
Thanks.
I make spaghetti and a spicy tomato and onion sauce, fry off the meatballs separately and serve on top of spag. and sauce, sprinkled with grated cheese. Delish!
Remember the old song 'On top of spaghetti, All covered with cheese, I lost my poor meatball, When somebody sneezed.. It rolled off the table and onto the floor - and then my poor meatball, Rolled out of the door!' Lidl do good Swedish meatballs by the way. :)
Ha ha, yes, I do remember that ditty.
Yours sound more like Italian meatballs J, which I've made before. These are Swedish (not sure what the difference is) and don't seem to be served in a tomato sauce.
I'm not going to fry them Tilly, just bubble them in the sauce to heat them through as they're already cooked. I'm pretty sure you could cook raw ones in the oven rather than fry them though, a bit like cooking burgers in the oven.
So do Italian ones, Mikey, in all the recipes I've seen anyway.
As far as I can make out, Swedish ones appear to rely on breadcrumbs to bulk them up.
Thanks for all your answers.
We've just had them in the mustard sauce in mamyas link and they were delicious. We had mashed potato and fine green beans with them. Very nice and highly recommended.
Thanks mamya x
