Beer Cheaper Than Water?
22 Answers
I just bought some 500ml bottles of plain water for my grandkids to take on their school trip.
They were £1 each, yet good quality real ale is 90p for 500ml in the supermarket!
As beer is made from water why the rip off?

Prices are often based not on intrinsic value but on what the market will stand. The water is priced that way because that is what people are prepared to pay and, with the water, you may well have thought it reasonable value for money. A lot of water costs a lot more. Beer is not a valid comparsion for a number of reasons - and the price contains tax which the water does not.
Our nearest Lidl is over 17 miles away . I had to use our corner shop.
I agree though I would never willingly buy bottled water . Buy a water bottle and fill it up is what I'd do.
I once ran a Rugby club bar, a sales rep once tried to get me to stock bottled water by offering me a case of it as a free trial. He was most put out when I refused to even accept it as a free trial! I told him it would be a waste of shelf space.

I've never bought bottled water and I certainly don't intend to - what's wrong with good ol' fashioned tap water??
I think the question has already been answered - stores will charge what they think they can get way with and if people are daft enough to pay it, then more the fool them (no offence intended).
