Larger Ovary
7 Answers
I had a Pelvic Ultrasound this morning, I had an internal as well as an on top.
I only got the internal as I mentioned where the pain was/usually lurks and it was decided they were going 'in'.
Radiographer commented to me that my right ovary was a little larger than what it should be. There is no cysts or fibroids.
I've been checked for PCOS and that has been ruled out.
What else could possibly cause the blighter to grow? I don't suspect anything sinister so don't think Cancer is likely. Is the fact it's bigger what causes me the pain and discomfort I've been experiencing on and off for years?
Awaiting a general gynaecology appointment.

An enlarged ovary may be caused by one of many types of ovarian cysts, including those that can form with polycystic ovarian syndrome. No matter the type, the cysts can grow, increasing the size of the affected ovary or of both affected ovaries. Often ovarian cysts remain dormant and do not cause symptoms. However, in some cases, the enlarged ovary may twist or become dysfunctional. Ovarian cancer and benign tumors may also lead to an enlarged ovary.
Common causes of an enlarged ovary
Common causes of an enlarged ovary include:
Corpus luteum cyst (cyst present in the second half of the menstrual cycle)
Dermoid cyst (benign tumor also known as a teratoma)
Follicle cyst (cyst that forms during the menstrual cycle)
Endometrioma (endometriosis affecting the ovary)
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (condition than can include multiple cysts in the ovaries)
Other causes of an enlarged ovary
Enlarged ovary can also be the result of other causes including:

Queenie my love.........the commonest cause by far, is a cyst, a benign cyst probably hormonal in nature. Other less common causes are endometriosis and another benign and rare cause that I have forgotten (if i remember I will come back to you).
As your quite rightly say, malignancy ( cancer ) is extremely unlikely.
Yes, an enlarging ovarian cyst and a developing endometriosis can be responsible for back pain.

Would a Follicle cyst just come up and go down as it was always bad when I had a period - and could explain why no cysts were visible today?
