Jacobs Inn Dublin

my friends and I are off to Dublin for the weekend on 4th Feb, we are staying at Jacobs Inn hostel, does anyone know if this is near to pubs restaraunts etc..... also any advice on where to go in Dublin for a good night out?? thanks

I've been to Dublin lot's of times, I do not know the specific place but I do know that there is nowhere in Dublin that is not near a pub!

The temple bar area is very popular, if a expensive, some great pubs with traditional music, the first floor of the Oliver StJohn (pronounced sinjun) Gogarty is very good. There is usually some kind of street entertainment. 

It is true what they say the Guiness in Ireland tastes completely different and the first pint will be gone very quickly so order the next one in good time, enjoy!

Another bonus if, like me, you are a non smoker is that it is banned in all the pubs and in fact anywhere where people are employed.

Have a great time, the Irish are so friendly, all the pubs are heavin' and everyone enjoys themselves.  Try to find O'Shea's The Merchant, along the river Liffey, when we went there a few years ago, Wales had just won the Rugby over Ireland, and some Welsh supporters came into the bar.  Did the Irish mind? No - the 'singer' on stage sang The Green Green Grass of Home !! Brilliant Place.

I spent a weekend in Dublin this summer and stayed at the Jacobs Inn hostel. You can walk to the centre very easily and there are some nice pubs on route. There are loads of bars, pubs and clubs in Dublin, wouldn't be able to name any (we arrived at 9am and didn't get to bed until 5am) but you really can't go wrong. As someone who lives in London where everybody is miserable and insular, I found the friendliness of Dubliners so refreshing. The Guiness is tasty but don't forget to try the Magners. My trip to Dublin was undoubtedly one of the highlights of 2005, have a great time!
