We decided to go here today. Not been for quite a long time. Quite sad so many closed down shops. There must have been about a dozen charity shops. There must have been one each of every bank and building society.
And three different funeral parlours all on the same high street.
Very surprised at the pound shop. So much marked £2 and £5.
Lidl prices were lower. But I did buy 5 chocolate advent calendars at £1 each for the grandchildren.
When we got home I unpacked the bag and calamity. I had put half a bottle of Lilt in the bag. The top was not screwed on properly and the advent calendars were soaked.
I put them in the sun to dry out, about an hour later I remembered they were chocolate and could melt!
I don't know if I've rescued them but hey for £1 each it doesn't matter.

So many town and city centre's are becoming ghost towns. Rising rates and rents, internet shopping, all contributing. Don't think they can be saved.
I quite liked it on a sunny day last month - the banners outside each shop have something about them. I agree about the undertakers - never seen so many in prime sites in one town.
They are going to have to lower rents to encourage independent shops and not chain stores. The big shops are moving to retail estates which is pretty crap if you don't have a car

We don't even have a fishmongers in Northampton. We used to have a massive fish market where you could get more or less anything. It's now a bus station! A bus station that is too small for the town.
Caran....the Abbey is outstanding. Its worth going to see for the ceiling alone !
