Is Halal slaughter humane and regulated? I understand that Halal meat may be appearing in supermarkets, and if it is neither, I hope it is clearly labelled so that I can avoid it (and the supermarket)

There is no separate halal/non halal section in any supermarket I've ever been in, maybe it's only in areas where locals get to abuse binmen with impunity.

Bend your knee to the death cult masquerading as a religion.
a 2014 report:

"UK Food Standards Agency figures from 2011 suggest 84% of cattle, 81% of sheep and 88% of chickens slaughtered for halal meat were stunned before they died.

"Supermarkets selling halal products say they stun all animals before they are slaughtered. Tesco says the only difference between the halal meat it sells and other meat is that it was blessed as it was killed."

There is a Halal and Kosher section in my Tesco but only some of the NZ lamb they sell is displayed in that section.
I have been to my local Halal abattoir and watched some of the slaughtering - the animals were definitely stunned.

My neighbour is a supervisor there and he is learning Polish on the job - most of the employees are Polish. (He doesn't have to - they all speak English, but he chooses to)
I do not understand the condemnation of Halal meat when Kosher slaughter is far worse. It says that the animal MUST be fully conscious when killed, no stunning at all.
Eddie, I don't think you will find kosher products in a local supermarket.
Plenty of secretly filmed video on the internet. Yep, when the animals have had their throats cut ... they definitely looked stunned alright.

Ditto, douglas.

Talbot, been one for years in my local Tesco.
Anyone who thinks all animals are stunned before they are killed is living in cloud cuckoo land. You only have to google it and you will find the most horrific videos and pictures. I shan't post any I'll leave it to your imagination. This list from the Telegraph on which supermarkets sell which Halal products is 3 years old but interesting nonetheless. Oh and M&S's West Country lamb used to be non Halal but last time I checked with them they wouldn't confirm it was still so.

LOL, yes I can believe that.
When we lived in Hampstead the Maida Vale Sainbury's certainly had a Kosher section, I think it depends where you are tbh, no Jews around Herefordshire in any number so would be pointless here, but a large Jewish community in North London.

I've been in sheep farming for many years now and have taken hundreds of lambs to the abattoir. I have seen the process and while i can't say I enjoyed it I believe they were operating within the regulations with observers and a vet in attendance. In my opinion any practices that do not comply with law and regulation should be banned absolutely, yes and Kosher! If I was caught hanging a sheep up and cutting it's throat I would quite rightly be prosecuted.
Where are PETA, and the RSPCA?? If we continue to condone these barbaric practices why not bring back bear baiting and fox hunting..
Rant over........feel better now!
douglas, these businesses aren't bending their knee to any religion or cult.
They sell Halal and Kosher meats, poultry and meals for their god of Profit, to satisfy their discliples, the shareholders.
The easiest way to settle this discussion, on who & who dosent sell Halal meat, is to only sell it in local Mosque!!!
Question Author
Provided the process is humane and within regulation, I don't care where it's sold. If it's not, it shouldn't be sold at all.... anywhere!
Not so long ago a group of local farmers were caught killing and selling their lambs. This resulted in custodial sentences and an unfortunate suicide, but then political correctness did not come into it!
Jason, and we'll forever being told on TV how much farmers care for their animals. Those you mention have really let the side down.

^^
Indeed, the community was in shock, hence the suicide. But IMO it doesn't compare with the state appearing to condone the wholesale practice of what appears to be in many cases an illegal practice. But it's a religious ritual, so that's ok.
