Last night I made, for the first time ever, a Thai Green chicken curry. That was going well.

I took a previously opened box of Thai sticky rice from the cupboard and got out my scales to weigh the amount. When I poured the rice into the weighing pan, I noticed lots of little black flecks on the surface of the rice. Initially, I thought it may have been husks but I decided to leave it in the weighing pan for a while and see what happened. All the black specks disappeared. They had burrowed down under the surface!

Fortunately, I had some different, uncontaminated rice and cooked that.

The other box went in the bin!

I have just spent a delightful ten minutes researching rice and cereal pests. That was amusing.

I think I'll stick to frozen chips and jacket potatoes. Either that or always buy Tilda. The packet I threw away was a cheap one from a well known discount supermarket.
//We're all doomed! //

Haaa! I think the unseen eggs are harmless enough. We've all survived. ;o)
I buy rice in sealed foil packets now

Eggs are good for you!
hmmmm...go to work on an egg !
murraymints, packaging makes no difference. If the eggs are there, they're there.
stops beasties getting in if you have an escape though.. as I did
Question Author
...or out.
I put opened flour in a seal lock freezer bag..still in the bag..and then put that inside a plastic airtight container
Murraymints, What do you mean? Those beasties - or at least their eggs - are already in the product.
once you have had an infestation of these blighters you don't take any chances !!
yes but it stops them getting out to further contaminate..and stops any on the loose getting in !!
Question Author
If they're there, you need to stop them escaping. If they're not there, but somewhere else, you need to stop them getting in.

Snap. Minty.:-)
Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, once opened I keep rice, flour, pasta etc in airtight containers.
buying rice in foil packets also kind of stops you pigging oot ! lol.. is it a one or two pack meal ? easy to cook more than is necessary
Question Author
Oh, you buy those individual packs, Minty. I see.

I just weigh mine. 75 grams per person.

Anyway, I could be a lot worse. It could be mice!
Tilly, mice? That really does cause problems!!
I get the 2 servings packs.. so no waste and easy to store..ASDA do savoury..chicken..plain.. etc... cheap as chips too
