it will have to be out of Sainsburys as will be ordering on line nearer Christmas.
Red wine preferably, nothing too extravagant cost wise.

Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Primitivo is less than £7 per bottle usually and it's one I've had a good few times. I can highly recommend it.

To go with what, Emmie?
Question Author
not so much to go with to lay down for Christmas, but want one bottle for Christmas day, maybe, as a friend is dropping in to say hello, but she's not stopping that long. will offer her tea or wine as she prefers on the day. Would like one bottle to go with an Italian themed meal i have planned for us in a couple of weeks time.
We drank a super Wolf Blass yellow label Cabinet Sauvignon couple of weeks ago and might get some more of that
Yes, I do, and while noting the caveat about Sainsburys I'd like to recommend an excellent Australian Shiraz by Blaxland Estate.

Five quid a bottle.

From Tesco.

If you want to spend a couple of pounds extra, this is the one I would be buying:

It's worth noting that Zinfandel and Primitivo are actually the very same grape.

With the Italian meal you would not go far wrong with a nice Valpolicella. I have mentioned before that you cannot beat for £4.49 a bottle or 3 of Aldi's Bushland Australian Shiraz. Bottoms up. :))
Sainsburys are showing no Valpolicello but this Chianti looks good to go with an Italian meal.

thanks for the advice, will look at sainsburys offers and see what i can come up with, some look good and reasonable prices.
they are doing 6 bottles of the Wolf Blass yellow label Cabernet sauvignon for 8 quid a bottle but if you order 6 its 25 percent off..
Asda are doing some Wolf Blass in their 6 for £25, they are also doing Casillero Diablo for £6, OH is very partial to reds and likes that.

zebo
thanks, needs to be sainsburys im afraid, as i am only set up shopping on line for them. but thats a good price for that wine.
"Gentlemen’s Collection” Cabernet Sauvignon

It's got a splat of fortified wine in it, making it delightfully festive! Not bad for £7 a bottle!

so got some good choices, will likely go with the Wolf Blass, a good wine, and NoM entry seems a safe bet. Plus a couple of other reds that i noticed on their website.
NoMercy is very good at recommending Wines. What she has recommended sounds good !!
