I like Red Leicester, nice and strong.
Just go to the cheese counter, and ask the person behind it for a mature cheddar or a strong cheese... :-)
Cathedral City is a bit bland. Try Pilgrim's Choice.
A good Lancashire cheese is very tasty, there used to one called crumbly Lancashire, there's also Grandma Singleton's. They're probably a bit dearer than Cathedral city but are worth it.
I switched to an applewood smoked cheese with a really nice strong flavour - cant remember the brand.

That's a coincidence jackdaw I live not far from Leicester .where is it actually made .?
Are you looking for other cheese types or just another Cheddar with more taste?
If the latter, then this is a good seller from our shelves at Morrisons.

Hopkirk I have seen pilgrims choice it is sometimes on offer but I have never tried it .
Do you leave cheese out to get to room temperature before eating?

I’ve only recently found out to do this and found that cheese cold straight out of the fridge is a totally different taste than cheese tasted at a room temperature.

I'd also recommend the Davidstow.

Manchego

Didn't read your reply properly before I answered jahulaye .no I usually use it straight from fridge
Wendilla, trust me, I used to do the same but was told by experts (cheese and wine) to have them at room temperature and the difference is night and day.
I find Cornish cheddars to be good. Very mature, crumbly. The first I tried was M and S Cornish Cruncher, but most shops have similar now including aldis and Lidl. Welsh Colliers is also good.

I agree with Jahulaye.I always take my cheese out of the fridge an hour before eating to allow it to 'breath'.
In essence, don’t change your cheese, just the way you eat it.
DO NOT keep cheese in the fridge, chilled cheese has no taste at all.
Keep it covered but at room temperature. I have problems finding really strong cheddar ,even the 'extra mature' is very bland to my taste. No cheese counter in our local supermarket ,just a shelf.
Totally agree with Jahulaye - must be eaten at room temperature - leave out for at least 20 -30 minutes
