Oven Linings

Can anyone tell me the difference between the different linings you get in new cookers - I've seen enamel, catalytic, assisted, steam..from experience/knowledge (no links thanks). which is the most advanced and efficient for easy cleaning?

I had a pyrolitic oven in the USA some 30 years ago and never understood why they aren't more popular in the UK. The oven locks and runs a very high temp cycle which burns all the dirt and grease away to a small amount of grey ash. Totally fab and will be my next choice of oven if I can afford it. I have had catalytic linings on my last 2 ovens and my current one and tbh I don't find them that great

I have a pyrolitic oven and would not have anything else. I've had the catalytic liners before and found they were rubbish especially as many can't be cleaned with oven cleaners.
Enamel needs a lot of oven cleaner and elbow grease unless you are prepared to clean it after every use.

I have two Neff pyrolytic ovens, one is a double oven and the other is a microwave /oven combined.

The cleaning is simple, the turn of a switch and a quick wipe with a cloth afterwards, but they do use a lot of power to come up to the correct cleaning temperature. You can't leave in the shelves either and they have to be cleaned separately.

I tend to do my ovens at the weekend because our electricity tariff is lower for the weekend period

The catalytic ones? It looks like when they are on 'burn clean' you are advised to leave the room, even a hint it could be toxic? Couldn't be faffed with that? Looking on John Lewis and Currys no mention of this pyrolitic..

Oven cleaners are supposed to be used in a well ventilated space, which an oven isn't. I have asthma and using the pyrolitic is far better for me - I stay out of the kitchen whilst it's doing its thing and open all the doors and windows.

I've got Siemens pyrolytic ovens, one of them has a microwave and is stream assisted. I think they're fab, and they clean themselves very easily.

The first time I used the cleaning option, I had a bit of fumes, now I get none at all.

Sorry should have said - with my filters of double,fan, built in there are 3. Once I filter the colour I want there are none on JL.

Well how many cookers do you want? A choice of 3 is much better than a choice of none

Not at all, just looking at what's available and the linings mean little to me. I knew ABers would know way more than me, I don't cook for starters but he has insisted on fan assisted and it must be double built in to replace what we have. On top of that our kitchen is cream shaker style, we have nothing black and nothing stainless steel so that appears to be very limiting.

I've got cream shaker with black ovens. To be honest, I don't think I gave the colour of the ovens any thought when we had the kitchen done.

What sort of colour are you looking for? What colour is your oven at the moment?

White. I suppose black would do, it's only the surround after all

If the link works, that's what my ovens look like. The cream is a bit heavier than the photo suggests. I don't have any other black in the kitchen, except for the hob.

That's very smart Rocky, thanks to everyone but I'm going to have to give you best answer because you've gone to such effort to show a photo :-)
Woofgang is a close second though. I'm not that thrilled so far on the self-cleaning type based on these answers.
