How do you like it,
I am a milk and sugar type, I presoak my oats in the milk for about 15 mins before cooking in the microwave in a jug or tall container for a total of seven minutes stop and stir every time you see them bubble close to the top . Sweeten if you like then stand for a minute before eating.
a wee dram of a single malt scotch and cream in it when they are done. Pre-soak before hand.
What a palaver. One measure of oats to two measures of water, bung it in the micro for 3 minutes. Remove, sprinkle liberally with salt and enjoy.
I mix mine the night before, tastes much better
not like you to turn a good scotch down, Jack...
Make porridge, tip down sink.

Bacon and egg sarnie should be the next kitchen duty.
Microwaves are fine, but if the porridge bubbles over or erupts, cleaning will take longer than cooking.

Simple recipe:

Use a good (preferably stainless steel) saucepan.
One mug of oats
Two to two-and-a-half mugs cold water
salt spoon of salt

Bring to boil, stir, reduce to simmer.

5 minutes simmering, then serve.

You can add more water during the simmering process to suit your preferences.

All the other ‘refinements’ maybe nice, but not necessary.
I use half a cup of oats, a cup of water, some dried fruit, cinnamon and ginger then microwave in a bowl for 2 mins. I like a sprinkle of sugar on the top. Could use a milk and water mix if you prefer.
1ozzy, in all the excitement you forgot the side of black pudding. :-)
Silly me Doug.

Face slaps from all and sundry.
i like to add fruit and cinnamon instead of sugar.
chocolate works well too - only need a small square of decent dark choc, lovelyness
Do you cook it with the chocolate or stir in after?
Tip it in the bin- then get Coco pops instead :-)
B00 - good to see your post, but why have you joined up with the anti-Jock brigade?

Leave Proper Porridge alone, you lot! You want sweeties for breakfast, fair enough, but leave real food to us Northreners.
What Jack said
Ahhh, im only kidding bainbrig, love ya really ;-)

But still, bit of a kerfuffle first thing in the morning all that innit?

I'll stick to me coco pops, much less faffing.
I do mine the same as Jackdaw. I prefer unground rock salt to the usual flowing table variety.
Porridge made with water is disgusting and only fit for the workhouse.

My nana used to make it with half milk half water and pour cream ( well carnation actually) into it in the serving bowl and a sprinkling of brown sugar. She was about as northern as you can get.
What BOO said !
Aunt Lydia, I feel you are being rather rude about my choice of porridge recipe. It may be gruel, but I like it
