I think it is very difficult to find a really good format for Partridge to exhibit the myriad and depthless horribleness of his nature, but I think this one is good, because it will sustain over the length of the series.
His co-star Susannah Fielding has grasped her part to perfection - she is every bit as shallow and odious as Alan, but far better at covering it up - she controls where he simply speaks his brains.
It can't be as good as the earlier work, that was too strong to improve, but I think there is a lot more potential yet for Alan to snatch ignominy from the jaws of national fame - again.
