Supermarket Cooked Meat Scam
14 Answers
So is the roast beef and roast pork on the cold counter really roasted? the answer is NO.
It is all boiled, why, well if you roast a joint of beef or pork it will lose nearly 50% of its weight, so the big boys have it boiled in a bag, and it will only lose about 20%, hence a lot more profit at the expense of taste.
There is a massive difference in the taste of boiled pork / beef to roasted, the boiled, bland and tastless. The trick the supermarkets use to make it look roasted is when the boiling process is completed is to what they call flash it off in an hot oven, just long enough to brown it over, or use a colouring to make it look roasted.
To get round the law, some supermarkets label it up as cooked beef/ pork, but most still label it up as (roast) yet another rip off by our supermarkets.
