My daughter volunteers at a nursing home. it's her birthday this week and I think it would be nice if she took a tin of biscuits in for the residents. She doesn't want to though (I think she's embarrassed about them making a fuss of her). Do you think she should?

It would be a nice thing to do but not if it makes her feel uncomfortable.
Be nice........
Why would she take some biscuits into the Nursing Home on HER birthday, it would be more appropriate if it was one of the residents birthday.

Isn't that just the norm? Take sweets to school, cakes to the office and so on. As nobody there knows it's her birthday they would be super skilled to have cakes ready!
ck1....Mrs sqad agrees with you and disagrees with me.
If she would be embarrassed, no.
Its a nice thought. I think the answer is for her to wait until her birthday has come and gone and then for her to take some biscuits in for the residents on a random day when noone is expecting it.
do they know its her birthday? I can see she might feel shy about mentioning it if they don't know, like she is seeking attention. Do the staff or other volunteers bring in something on their birthdays? Again if its the custom that's one thing but if she would be the first to do it, I can see why she would not want to.
oh and of course there might be issues with residents who can't have what she takes in for health reasons
Good post by woofy....in my opinion.^^^^
Really, what does a birthday have to do with it?...Just take biscuits or other treats in any day she likes.
Even better post bt sanmac...in my opinion ^^^^^
I think they would appreciate wine ;*)
I think it's a good idea, but she doesn't, so really that's the answer.

It is not unusual - in fact it's traditional where i work - in an office , of a national company ; for staff to bring food in on their birthdays - normally cakes / sweets
Bazile, I have never heard of that tradition...Interesting.
sanmac

I don't know how it started .

if fact i've worked in other departments of the company over the years and that's always been the case
If she doesn't want to, say no more. I'm sure the residents just glad to have a little chat and a smile!
Having said that , although most do , no one is ' forced ' to do so
Bazile...right.......thanks.....;-)
