Mango Chutney With Unwanted Ingredient
21 Answers
Opened a new jar of mango chutney earlier, put a spoonful in a plate and noticed something that did not resemble a piece a mango. Prodded and looked more closely at it and realised it was a maggot!! Blurgghhh!!
I've contacted Tesco and they advised to take the jar and the offending item back to the store customer service counter. They said that they will investigate it with the manufacturer.
Have any of you found any foreign bodies in your food?

As a small child my mother gave me Weetabix with hot milk for supper as I watched TV...in the dark. Nearly broke my teeth trying to chew something......it was the skull of a mouse. She complained and was sent a free packet of Weetabix. Nobody ate it.
On holiday in Devon with my mother in law we had a cream tea. My plain scone had something bitter and chewy in it......it was a huge fly or blue bottle. I went to the loo and she paid the bill in case I made a fuss!

years ago, I emptied a tin of plum tomatoes that had a maggot in it.....only to be told, that's quite common! nothing was done about it.
A tin of a well know brand of corned beef had an extra ingredient which turned out to be part of a tongue - cow's & not human I hope!
A packet of Walkers cheese & onion crisps had a piece of beige coloured wood in it! - Easily mistaken for a crisp....after all, it was the same colour.
Finally a bottle of R Whites 2Litre lemonade had an 'L' shaped piece of metal in it, the bottle was kept unopened & it turned out to be part of the 'bottle filling mechanism' used in the manufacturing of the product...….I must add that as a retailer myself at the time I discovered the culprit when opening up a 6 pack I had bought from the wholesalers.

pebble in hazelnuts....
easily identified
the egyptians labourers I worked with used to go thro their rice ration looking for pebbles .... teeth etc - 40 y ago and
yes I now have a good look at stuff I empty out .....
90% of stuff in food is fraudulent as I commented to the guy I handed the pebble to - and he said yes I know .....
the pebble had got thro as they filter too small and the hazel nuts are left and then too large - and the hazelnuts fall out - along with the right sized pebbles .... so they changed their processing .....
glass shards in coffee granules - the jars are kept upside down until the last moment so that is difficult - very difficult ....

Peter’s post has reminded me of when I gave my dad some rat poison in an old coffee jar. (He had a rodent problem - I wasn’t trying to kill him)
He picked it up for a camping trip thinking it was coffee. He offered a drink to another camper who politely turned it down when he noticed the granules were bright blue.

I found live caterpillar in a bag of pre-washed lettuce once. It danced on a guest's plate like a cobra in a snake charmer's basket. Upon contacting Tesco they assured me that treatment of salad leaves ensures that any livestock present will meet an untimely end. I assured them that although I don't want living creatures in my food, I don't want dead ones either. They sent me a £5 voucher - but it didn't change my way of life - except that in my house even pre-washed salad leaves are washed very thoroughly now.
