No worries. I'll try to remember to drop it into conversation during brunch at Antipodea.
I think the Italians would disagree with you, TTT.
It is their word ;o)
The Italian pronunciation is as TTT says 'i.e Strom bo lee
making a mountain out of a molehill ...

Odd that the OP should be from Answerbank's English Language Mangler-in-Chief....
Question Author
builder how do you pronounce it then?
TTT .... I've checked on the Net for pronunciation.

Any Italian will say "STROM ba lee" with the emphasis on the first syllable.

The other one is American, and as we know, Americans sometimes distort pronunciation. ;o)
Builder, ignore what the net said, having an Italian wife for 50 years and an Italian qualification |I can assure you that it should be pronounced Strom bo li(lee)
With the stress on "strom".
Yes the stress should be on Strom with bo and li running together
I think we're in agreement here, Danny.
I was just trying to make the point that the stress is on the first syllable rather than the American way with the second syllable stressed.

Anyway, I watched (again) recently, my beloved Ingrid Bergman in her first film with Rossellini (Stromboli).

Any excuse to watch Ingrid.
I'll have Ms Munchetty flogged within an inch of her life - once I've stopped gazing at her utter gorgeousness, which may take some time ...
:-)
Certo
