I'm going to a friend's house tomorrow for a bit of a get together with a few others (about 7 of us), we have all been charged with bring a dish. Any ideas on what to bring? something that doesn't take long to prepare, and can preferably be served cold/room temperature.

Just to add - a savoury dish. She'll have enough desserts.
smoked salmon, lemon wedges, excellent bread.
Tuna pasta bake.
Humus, crackers, carrot sticks, celery and cucumber batons.

(You can be the starter)
Large Spanish Tortilla. Warm or cold. Nine eggs cubed par boiled pots and a couple of large thinly sliced onions. Easy peasy and all the guests at our annual BBQ always look forward to a Spanish guest bringing it as a sort of starter.

Thank you, keep them coming.

I quite like the tortilla idea, and also the salad, the only problem is our Tesco never has ripe peaches, well, not much of ripe anything to be honest.

Someone else is doing a pasta bake, unfortunately.
Fresh fruit dish, A fresh pineapple chopped up makes a nice change you can get a large one for about £1.50, along with satsumas, blueberries, strawberries, raspberrys, pot of cream.
Beetroot, walnut and goats cheese served over salad leaves and dressed with balsamic glaze drizzled over it
One of my favourite cold dishes is mushrooms a la grecque....

Ooh, now that's doable.
Do a fancy salad and a joint of glazed gammon (you can get one that easily serves 7 from Asda for £6).
Thai salad.
Take the balsamic glaze with you and drizzle just before serving - its lovely and one of my fav meals currently - you even serve with some crusty torn bread on the side.
i like retros idea
The other dish I love is hot smoked salmon broken up and served with spring onions, edammne beans, salad leaves and pinenuts and again a drizzle of balsamic glaze
Gingejbee... mushrooms a la grecque... Wow I've never heard of that one, I had to google it.... that looks awesome I could wolf that down right now.
A risotto?
Make it a big dish as you'll want a nice large portion of whatever they've cooked up. Bring cutlery too; and a glass.

If you are thinking of bringing food as well, probably best to stay away from main courses as few cold ones are that exciting, buffet stuff excepted. Go for a trifle maybe.
