Did any other mum's develop a strange food fad during pregnancy that has stayed with them? I adored peanut butter on toast, smeared with salad cream and still adore it today; much to the disgust of my daughters'.
Yes! When I was expecting my eldest I discovered the joy of hot cross buns filled with pickled onions. (They had to be the golf ball size make your eyes water type of onion.) I still love this combination although I only indulge in the privacy of my own home.
..not very strange...but I craved for green jelly babies and green wine gums...the lovely lady who owned the sweet shop used to save me all the green ones from the massive jars.... I also craved tartar sauce sandwiches...
We lived in the Netherlands when I was expecting my eldest son and I used to make my husband drive me to Rotterdam to the market where I would gorge on maatjes herrings.
I used to eat grapefruit and lemons until they came out of my ears.Needless to say I had hated grapefruit before I was pregnant and as for sucking on lemons ...well !
My husband used to say "They must draw your a**e up to your elbows" !
Yes, I had to have curry, curry and more curry! nothing outrageous about the desire but the Indian restaurante we went to in Hampstead got very used to seeing us in thereand the day my daughter was born, treated my husband to a slap-up curry meal on the house by way of celebration!
