How quick are so many of us in the West to judge people in war torn countries when they make decisions out of desperation so they can save the lives of those they love? Perhaps it's because we've never had to face a situation where we are staring hardship in the eyes - until the last few days which have passed that is.

Next time you empty shelves in supermarkets, compete for the last toilet roll, rush to get some extra porridge, and argue with each-other over how many packs of Pasta and Bolognese each customer should be allowed.... think about those Syrian mothers trying to migrate whilst clutching on to their babies, those fathers in Burma trying to pass borders trying to escape being burnt alive, and those refugees walking for hundreds of miles trying to escape tyrants. Maybe... just maybe you'll understand a fraction of what they are going through.

Ok
Sweet or salty mozz?
Sweet. This place can get salty enough Martin.
Yes TD you are right of course.
We are so fortunate here, peace, law, shelter, healthcare, education, social security the list goes on.
Finding the answer is impossible in a world of greed and power politics.
Shift up, mozz. Make room for me.
I know given the current climate this may be a bit dodgy, but can we mix it together as I like a mouthful of sweet and salty at the same time!
Ah yes, Facebook; the gold standard for sensible debate.
Might be an idea to get some vinegar flavoured popcorn the way this is shaping up.

**offers popcorn**

TD is right describing the problem, the solutions require more than empathy.
//a mouthful of sweet and salty at the same time//

Oooh matron. ;-)
Noam Chomsky, "Manufacturing Consent," a two hour video based on his book, describes the causes of the problems TD describes.
Manufacturing consent presupposes that all media is controlled. This can be easily dismissed by the evidence of media sources being in conflict with each other and them exposing corruption (think MP's expenses scandal).

Awww, gawd. The thread just sank to an even lower level.

The idea is that here in the west we judge those making decisions that directly affect their lives and family, yet when the west gets a little worried we instantly think of ourselves and only ourselves, make rash decisions leaving the vulnerable without loo roll or soap.

If a major country started bombing the UK or if civil war broke out and we all needed to escape god can only imagine the panic and similarities we'd make to those we usually look down on or deny.
I really don't see the logic. We're no way near that stage of desperation plus one situation is caused by war and the other by disease. Your OP is a typical piece of half thought thru non sequential Facebook cobblers.

"I really don't see the logic"

It's not logic, it's comparison in character or exposing the hypocrisy of those who defame refugees escaping war torn countries or times of crisis and actions that are took.
