If I was a vegetarian I definitely wouldn't feed my children to a dog or cat.
If I was then yes definitely and I know plenty of veggies, and vegans who feed their carnivore and omnivore pets meat and fish.
I thought cats had to have meat
Yes. Dogs and cats are not suited to vegetarian diets and a growing child needs to learn to digest everything (we are omnivores) and make informed choices when adult.
they do rocky...cats are obligate carnivores (need meat) its possible to keep them healthy on a meat free diet but its difficult, requires synthesised food and of course you have to keep the cat away from the birdies, mice and so on. Dogs are not obligate carnivores but naturally would eat animal protein and I think its unkind to make them do without unless its for their health.
dogs do well on a vegetarian diet

heard years ago
small boy lithpth - - dogs have to eat meat
Mother: no they dont - Mummy is a nutritionist and knows dogs can do quite well without meat at all ......

tinned cat food has a higher pr content than dog food
Lewis Hamilton's dawg is apparently doing very well since being veganised by the great one.
The latest theory (Coppinger, Coppinger et al.) is that the creature who became the modern day dog was drawn to humans because of all the wonderful food that they abandoned on their midden heaps...yes folks....scraps from the table except it was before tables, and whatever has passed through the humans and retained value as food.
Yes, as neither people nor cats and dogs are designed to exist on a vegetarian diet.
doug: "Lewis Hamilton's dawg is apparently doing very well since being veganised by the great one." - now that is animal cruelty surprised the RSPCA are not involved. Whatever crackpot ideas inflict some humans from time to time, they should not be inflicted on helpless animals.
I thought Lewis Hamilton fed his dog on all the bulls--t he is prone to come out with.....
My daughter is vegan (has been for many years) and cooks offal to feed her dogs. She cooks steak for me, too :)
Yes, my diet is my choice, not to be inflicted on others!
Yes of course. Cats and dogs are carnivores, they eat meat in the wild (or their larger relatives do). To deprive them meat is a form of animal cruelty in my view.animal

Kids are a different thing entirely. If they are raised as vegetablists, they will probably stay as vegetablists.
My cat could be flat out asleep upstairs but can smell red meat seconds after it comes out of the fridge.
I would. My choices are just that - mine, not to be forced on anyone or anything else.

I see a couple in my town, they have tattoos, part-shaved heads, outrageous clothes and Doc Marten boots, but their little toddler looks like any other toddler, in standard clothes and dainty pink sandals.

When she's older, she may dress like mum and dad, but clearly they are making that her choice for later, which is as it should be.
Yes, I would give meat or fish to my cat, as cats are carnivores. I will also allow my kids to eat meat.
no. we will not give our pets to eat meat.
Cats are obligate carnivores...they MUST eat meat. Dogs can eat both, but will thrive better if the bulk of their diet is meat, plus added veg. Not grains...they'd not find those in the wild!
