What would you do?
We have declined an invitation to a firework party tonight which has been brought forward because of the lockdown There will be at least 20 people there, friends and extended family and a niece & family are going. There will be food and a lot of drink. Its in a large area where technically social distancing could take place, but it will not, I know that for sure, and am fairly sure no masks will be worn either. This gathering is against the Law in our area, I have checked on the Gov website by post code. They live on a hill and a bonfire and fireworks will be seen for literally miles. I’ve told the host why we are not going (illegal) and they could get a fine, and all those at the party a fine too. They are not a bit concerned and just poo poo it like it will not happen to them.
Should I just let them get on with it? Not my Problem after all? Or should I nod a wink to the local Bobbie (yes we have one) to go have a ‘quiet word’ before they actually get started? If I do this though they will probably put 2 & 2 together whose dobbed them in and I do not want to fall out with them.
It makes me very angry that people are flaunting the rules, while others can’t even have a Wake for their departed family member.

I certainly would not go to the event and would see 5hat it was my duty to society to inform the authorities.

As in the other thread, I wouldn't contact the police , they'll see for themselves no doubt and I wouldn't go either , you made the right decision

What about waiting till it has started and then tip off? That way it could be anybody as others will see and hear the fireworks.

You have made the correct decision and declined the invite.
I would let them get on with it and not see any of them during lockdown.
I don’t believe that ‘dobbing’ them in will serve any purpose and may make things uncomfortable for you in the future.
There are a lot of unjust happenings in my circle that pee me off.
Just working on keeping my home safe.

If you're worried about ruining the friendship, then you only really have two choices: do nothing and be angry, or find some clever way of letting the police know about it without giving it away that you knew beforehand (eg you can wait until the event has started, if it's going to be visible anyway there may be a few others noticing anyway; or let somebody else know and "suggest" that they might wish to tell the police, so that you can honestly say that you didn't tell the police about it).

Same answer as Ladybirder. I would not go and only inform the police when the party was in full swing (without any conscience)

Just to make it clear we have no intention of going and have told the host why. The host doesn't give a damn and has been having get togethers all summer.

I would dob without a second thought before the party and if the party started I would dob again. Social distancing is not relevant If its on private land its not allowed and if its on public land its still not allowed and neither are the fireworks. You need not dob through local bobby, isn't there a police hotline?

At least part of the reason they don't give a damn is probably because of the "nobody's going to stop us" attitude. It may be better in the long run to disabuse them of that notion that they can just get away with this, that rules don't apply to them and so on.

It's not the sort of thing that I'd be overly enthusiastic to go to anyway, but that stated, daft cov demands wouldn't play a part in my decision whether to go or not. And if I chose not to, it's none of my business to be a government nark. One has to live oneself and one's conscience afterwards.

Don’t go. If you’re going to report it, tell them so, don’t be sneaky about it (wouldn’t have thought being sneaky was your style).
