A couple of years ago, I switched a favourite brand of butter, to Lurpack, slightly salted, 500 g. Ive been shocked how much the price has jumped! £3.75! I felt quite guilty for putting it on my shopping trolly. I can't stand olive spreads, etc, on my toast. I could put up with it on a sandwich, I suppose. I also use it occasionally for cooking.
Just a rant really. There must be a lot of poor little families out there that have never tasted butter..

I noticed the high cost of butter a few years ago and still can't understand it as milk is cheaper than ever and processes haven't changed, as far as I know. If they have, it will be to reduce the costs of manufacture so I can't explain the high price. My favourite butter is now over £2 for 250g

i just paid 2.50 in sainsburys knock down price range for Anchor spreadable 500g.

Lurpak has always been more expensive than most other butters. It's the only one I really like so am prepared to pay the price.

Spreadable butters are not nice. They contain rapeseed oil. Perhaps OK on a sandwich but not on its own.

Then you won't like the butter I get from Lidls...West Country butter with sea salt crystals. £1.60 for 250gm

I too buy the Butter with salt crystal, I used to get a Brittany one from Asda but have had Welsh and Isle of Man ones.

I was just shocked how much it has jumped up these last few months. I don't know about others, but I sometimes when you buy the same things week after week, I don't always bother too much to check out the price. It's not as though we have a lot of luxuries, just the odd thing. I was thinking nearly £4 for that butter, could have made a couple of cheap meals for a family that us struggling.

I always used lurpak but I have switched to M and S . They do a one that tastes the same as lurpk. Spreadable and slightly salted. It's called softer butter.
