Had a meal in an hotel tonight which we often frequent. I had turkey and ham with the usual veg, brussel sprouts etc. They were so hard that I couldn't even cut into them. Informed the waitress who came back and said, 'Sorry, but the chef says that's the way he cooks them, al dente.' I complained to the restaurant manager but he just laughed it off and said it was a new chef. What would you have done?
P.S Having written this I know it sounds trivial but I was annoyed!
maggie at least someone was eating out, maybe helping to keep that business afloat, they should have not be so rock hard, but al dente doesn;t mean bullets.
Where the restaurant slipped up was not the sprouts but the way they handled the situation.
They should have suggested different veg or even a different dish. At the very least a complementary round of drinks or bottle of house wine.
It, to me is no big deal and I would have treated it as such.
Some people like the sprouts well done, others like the not well done or any degrees of hardness that one cares to mention. How does the chef know how YOU prefer your sprouts? If you eat out then the palatable presentation of your sprouts will be left to the chef but at home, you cook them the way YOU want them.
When you order a steak you are given the option of how you would like it cooked. I see no reason why that cannot be extended to sprouts or anything else for that matter.
I’d have sent them back, he/she could even have just pinged them in the microwave - it was your food that you were paying for and you should get it cooked the way you want it.
People are dying, all our ports are shut, no one wants us in their countries.....and we complain our sprouts are hard......A) be thankful you can still go out for a meal -we haven't been out since last March, B) be thankful there were veggies on your plate because in a few weeks time you may be wishing you could actually eat a raw sprout, C) .........no I better pass on that one .......
