that I get a genuine bargain in the supermarket...least of all Sainsbury's.
But today I got 3 packs of fish for the grand total of £3.07...usual price £12.25.
1.24 for Loch Trout fillets, normally 5.00, 94p for Cod fillets, normally 3.75, and q89p for Sea Bream fillets, normally 3.50.
Now which for tonight, and which for the freezer...?
I'm opting for the Sea Bream as it's quite delicate.

Enjoy the Bream.

Haggis, neeps and tatties with a white onion sauce tonight being Burns night and an homage to my Uni days - an event we would celebrate with the downing of 'Flaming Drambuies'......

Is black pudding a suitable addition tonight? I've had it before with fish, so may add a bit to my meal. Any excuse to have some. Who needs veg??
I love sea bream. We've got a fresh fish van that parks up down the road from me every Friday morning:

If the guy has got any sea bream left when I get down there, that's usually what I go for.

My best bargain in Sainsbury's was when I bought a £3 ready meal for 50p. However, when I came to cook it, I noticed that there was an error on the packaging. (The instructions for cooking from fresh and cooking from frozen were both labelled 'cook from fresh'). So I sent the packaging to Sainsbury's Customer Services, pointing out that I wasn't complaining about the product itself but just letting them know about a packaging error. They withdrew the product from all their stores until they could get their packaging reprinted and sent me a £10 voucher for letting them know. Not bad for a 50p meal, which I'd really enjoyed anyway ;-)

Flaming Drambuies...? Sounds perfect for an icey cold night.

That's an excellent bargain Chris. That pub looks typical of the area...ex grew up in Wantage, just down the road. Looking at the meals I'd have any of them. The beef carpaccio looks divine.

Now I have to check out DTs link...

I've bookmarked that recipe for when I'm feeling a bit more ambitious. It looks lovely. I love crispy fried prosciutto or Parma ham. Thanks for that.
I love black pudding with seafood - but an alternative - I'm assuming that you can find Cornish products over on your side of the Tamar? Try substituting Hog's Pudding for Black Pudding - and then there's a wonderful variant, if you can get your sticky paws on it, Hog's with red chilli in it - seriously delish and not overpowering!

I've not seen it it locally...yet. More likely after we are all unlocked. ;)
I'll check online too.

I take that back ^^^^
I've seen the Westaways brand. Is that very processed?
not bad but if you can find a butcher in Saltash or environs.....!
You can't slice hogs pudding like you can black pudding though. It's just a big sausage with pork and pearl barley. It usually bursts it's skin when you fry it.
slice it before and don't be over-aggressive in the heat, 237.....
I`ve never seen it sliced, I must admit. It doesn't have an intense flavour so I can't really see the point in having a slice. It would be like slicing a sausage.
I grant you that it's more subtle than a full-on black pudding...(but try the chilli if it can be found). Slicing it is like black pudding as one can 'sear' the meat face on either side and not just the outer skin.
I just fry the whole thing, let it burst it's skin and enjoy the crispy fried bits. I like it with a pile of mushrooms and a poached egg. We used to eat it with lava from the Exmoor coast.
sounds good with the lava....
I got a pack of 375g of tiger prawns for 49p at Morrisons the other week, I am not ashamed to say that I had the lot in a mild curry sauce.
