Today I saw 'fried onions' in a tin - dread to think what it tastes like - who can't fry an onion - surely it needs to be reheated anyway!!?
I thought 'microwave mashed potato' was bad, mashed potato in a ready meal tray! Who can't boil and mash a potato !!? Can't take any longer than doing it properly can it?

Can anyone top these?

I don't see the point in convenience foods either. I'd much sooner cook things from scratch. The grated cheese thing always gets me! Then again I never thought about folks who have arthritis and struggle to do things like grate, and peel and chop!

or student who dont have a cheese grater, or never buy stuff like clingfilm (for wrapping the left-over cheese)

i think fried tinned onions sounds like a good idea - i live i a village with no shop that opens after 5pm and ive lost count of the times ive come home from work, started cooking tea, and found ive run out of onions/mushrooms/something else and then dont fancy a 20 mile round trip to the nearest shop. I know the answer is to plan in advance, but i live in one of those places where the men in my life use the last onion/loo rolll/whatever, dont tell anyone and dont replace it.

By the way, as an aside, why is it ive always started cooking before i find out i dont have some vital ingredient?

I don't eat any 'ready meals', but I do admit that I buy them for my partner. I used to spend hours cooking him lovely homemade meals every day, until I realised that he doesn't notice the difference! I still cook fairly regularly, but it is so much easier to just stick something in the microwave if you've been working all day.

I don't think even he would buy ready fried onions though!

Nickmo, don't wish a durian on anybody!!!!!

It's evil!!!
