Grandparent

Anybody else, initially, NOT looking forward to becoming a Grandparent?
Told about 7 months ago by son and G/F that I was to become a Granddad...
On the face of it, I expressed my 'delight' while inwardly feeling, err, otherwise.
(Why would you bring a child into this world etc)
Now cant wait.
4 days overdue and my slippers and pipe are going cold....
Already got my Grand daughter a huge teddy bear....

At 74, I fear it will be another few years before I might see grandkids as my daughter is very career focused. My brother was about 82 when he welcomed his first...he now has 3.
I hope the soon to be mum has an easy delivery.

I agree totally with the post of NJ.
No, I can't see the fascination of grandchildren or great grandchildren and I have a supply of both, some of which Ihave never seen or really want to see.
They are other peoples children and other peoples responsibility.
I can't see what all the fuss and emotion is all about.
What do they think of grandad or great grandad?
It bothers me not.

Sqad, I can empathise with that. These days children often have 6 or eight 'grand-parents' due to blended families etc and the little ones sometimes don't know who is who . I have grand-children I've never met in person as they live 3000 miles away and both under 5 years old. The nearest are 250 miles away, and when we see them it's nice, but I don't go mental waiting for them to come. I always said I would never be the grandparent that does child-care -Ive done all that for their parents and have no intentions of being nanny daycare. However, when they get older they will probably become more interesting lol!
We have 6 grand children who we see most weeks and they certainly keep us on the go. Seeing AuntPG's post about blended families reminded me of when our youngest was in school. He came home and asked why we were not divorced. Why we asked and he said most of his friends parents were and so they got 2 lots of presents at christmas and on birthdays. Made us laugh.
