What Did You Enjoy Most

What food did you enjoy eating most this Christmas. ( not drink) I bought a small joint of brisket. I popped it in a thick freezer bag first and boiled it for an hour, then into a hot oven and roasted it over. Yummy!

Open a small can of pilchards in tomato sauce:

Empty the contents into a suitably-sized casserole dish.
Remove the bones and then mash the pilchards together to form a layer across the bottom of the dish.
Generously dust with freshly ground black pepper.
Open a small can of new potatoes (or boil some new potatoes if you're not as lazy as me). Slice them so that they're about half a centimetre thick and use the slices to form a layer on top of the pilchards.
Use that pepper grinder again!
Now cut some mature cheddar cheese into slices (roughly a few millimetres thick) and use them to form a third layer in the casserole dish.
Reach for the pepper grinder again!
Spread a thin layer of English mustard over the top of the cheese. (I find the easiest way is to use one teaspoon to take the mustard out of the jar and then a second teaspoon to transfer the mustard onto the cheese).
Leave the lid off the casserole dish and heat in an oven at Gas Mark 6 (200C) for about half an hour. (The exact timing doesn't matter. Nothing is actually being cooked. You're simply heating everything through and browning the top).
Serve with sliced green beans (and perhaps some sweetcorn).
It probably sounds absolutely revolting but, if you like your food really packed with flavour, I can assure you that it's delicious!

we had running all day buffets on Christmas Day at a friends and at ours on Boxing day..lots of tasty treats that would otherwise not have been tried...slow cooked gammon I did for my day of hosting seems to have been the most remarked on....and it was all quickly gobbled up before I had a chance to try it...lol..so will get another this week and make sure I sample it this time..lol the brie in cranberry and leek in a filo pastry ring was delicious though !
