In days gone by, I used to dip into the News Section straight away when opening AB. It was by far the best section on here. One person in particular made sure it was lively and interesting - great debates and quite a few disagreements. Others have tried since, but failed and given up, and now it's not even worth dipping into. I am sure there must be others on here that feel the same. Am I right?

the problem is that there are a few trolls that are exempt from the rules that post the same trolling tripe day in day out. I must confess to trying to fight fire with fire sometimes but never getting very far because I am subject to the rules and they are enforced on me. I suggest the ED and mods have some sort of meeting and get some sort of consistency and apply it to...

It could equally be said, I suppose, that CB wasn't always full of people moaning about the various parts of The AnswerBank ;-)
Whether it's News, ChatterBank or anywhere else on AB though, there will never be any interesting threads unless someone posts on a subject to start a thread off.
I try to start threads off in CB from time to time, and occasionally in News, but we need more people to start things off, rather to simply moan about others not doing so. (That's NOT a specific swipe at you or your post though, Lottie. It's simply a general observation).

True Buenchico I have noticed that you have drifted from your comfort zones into CB which had previously been alien to you.
I admire that.....
However, all postings are down on AB.......
One problem is that many contentious posts, which seem to be popular ,are removed to such an extent that many wonder if it is worth posting. I am one of those.

I miss AOG too Sqad. I think lots too.
Chris, Personally, I wouldn't even try to put something in News at the moment. What I seeing there is mostly repetitive rubbish day after day. TTT tried to revive it, but has given up and I don't blame him. I don't consider myself super intelligent, but I love hearing the views on what's going on in the world from people with good heads on their shoulder who respect others. AOG had these attributes.

I would add that whilst some see a change in others' postings they may fail to see a change in their own.
Such changes can be because of age, a swing in our beliefs and understandings, a feeling of being let down by others - e.g. party line or individual politicians, the voracity and/or ferocity of others' postings, let alone being absolutely cheesed off by certain posters to give but a few examples.
However, if any decide not to post in News then I believe they may do themselves a disservice, similar to not voting and losing the moral right to complain about government. In other words, one has to be in it to win it ;) If you would like to add a certain style of posting that appears to be absent you have the power so to do.
The golden rule must be that everyone is entitled to have an opinion.

I am not up to starting lively and interesting debates. I haven't that talent! I admit it. And I tire easily and in am far less resilient these days. In would just like to join in on interesting posts of which there is variety. There are leaders and there are followers. We all play a part. Seeing the same subject day after day after ........ Is just plain boring. I learnt a great deal from the News section because it inspired me to do further research. It gave my brain some work to do! Not any more :
Take heart, in the "good old days" even Ano the Old Git sometimes failed to get the "interesting and long-running threads" going:
