Up town early this morning to stock up for the week.
Not a lettuce to be seen.
Neither broccoli or small tomatoes.
Hardly any 'soft' fruits' either.
Never mind eggs, bread and cooking oil.
Are we heading towards rationing again?

Who knows. Was there enough steaks and cake though ?
Question Author
Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak spends 13 grand a year to heat his pool.

Not a fan of Greggs at the best of times.
Been to Lidl today - plenty of fresh fruit & veg there. Eggs, bread & cooking oil all fully stocked.
Would Sunak not spending £13,000 each year heating his pool have improved the supply of fresh food?
Being a Monday maybe their deliveries hadn't arrived yet after the weekend if you were there too early?
Question Author
Nothing to do with been to early at Lidl
(unfortunetly dont have one close to me)
Its whats been reported on the news,

Not in the least !

But it does make me question the calibur of
the people we chose to lead us.

Rich people telling poorer people how to cut
back on food/heating/fuel while wondering on how they heat their
swimming pools does cause concern.

How do you heat your swimming pool?
There was a strike in Spain recently that caused supply chain problems. I also heard that North Africa didn't have a good crop of tomatoes so they kept most of them to themselves. Don't know if that is still the case.
I've been told that lettuce, broccoli and tomato have stopped lurking around Hanley. :-)

Was that a lorry drivers strike?

True Till.s
No shortage of monkey dust or spice though judgening
by the consumers.

A friend of mine is currently in Strattford for a few days.
Apperently theres no shortage down south.
Asked him to supply me with a lettuce upon his return.
Seriously.

Might even go the whole hog and ask him to pick me up a broccoli and a few eggs while hes at it...
"How do you heat your swimming pool?"

I don't have one and even if I had, heating it would not have any impact upon the fresh-food supply chain or the growing and harvesting of the fresh food in or outwith this country in the first place.
Yes, there was a strike by Cooperative workers in Spain but vastly reduced supplies for a couple of weeks to all supermarket chains.
This is now over, plenty of lettuce/leaves, tomatoes, broccoli, greens and soft fruits in our place (in Cheshire); our bread mountain continues to grow and eggs are plentiful (albeit barn eggs, not free range due to bird flu problems).
Cooking oils will be a problem in the medium to long term due partly to the war in Ukraine, as they supply 80% of sunflower oil; the main substitute, rape seed oil, only crops once a year so not enough to fill the gap.
Certain pastas could get short due to bad weather problems in Canada and France, the main producers of Durum wheat.

No problems across our shelves (Morrisons).
No shortages in Asda today.
I'd better not say that Waitrose was fully stocked this morning...nailit won't be happy that someone on here can afford to shop at Waitrose, rather than Poundland.
Question Author
Sounds like a media 'thing' again,
Agin to the toilet roll fiasco.
Report that there are shortages in certain places
and voilà,
There are shortages everywhere?
Just done my Waitrose order ginge, no problem at all.
