Just made the underneath of this ready to do the topping on Sunday.
It’s a BBC recipe and very tasty, first time I’ve made it, won’t be the last I’m sure, it’s very quick and easy.
Instead of floury white potatoes for the champ (why they call it that I’m not sure, it just has a handful of frozen peas and a couple of spring onions in it, with grated cheese on top) topping, I’m going to use sweet potatoes, just because I have some in and we like them.

I find the BBC good food recipes pretty reliable. I've made similar lentil shepherds pies in the past and they were good Hope you enjoy it - nice to get the main part of the work out of the way..
Many a tear has to fall but it's all in the game
All in that wonderful game that we know as love.
^^ Oops, sorry - wrong thread!
Vagus; are you saying that you would replace mashed potato with a handful of peas? I'm a bit lost with your description. I think that Champ is the Irish name for delicious buttery mash, often called Colcannon.
Sweet potatoes instead of the floury white is how I read it.
Pasta; that makes more sense to me. But I must say that I don't really enjoy sweet potatoes (or handfuls of peas). But it's all down to personal preferences. Go for it, Vagus.

Champ is, apparently, different to colcannon mash in that it doesn’t contain cabbage, which I didn’t realise.
I will be using sweet potatoes instead of ordinary potatoes, with the addition of some grated cheese on top, to top the shepherds pie.
You got it in one, pasta ;)
I do like the idea of being a lentil shepherd.
You'd only last until Easter though, Jno.

I just like the idea of being a shepherd, how wonderful would that be. If I ever won loads of money I’d have a small manageable sheep farm.
I missed my calling, twice.
If you are a shepherd you need a decent sheep dog.

It can't be a shepherds pie without lamb.
It's a lentil farmers pie

goodness, I didn't know you had to round up Wagyu cattle, I thought they just lolled in hammocks all day having their tummies tickled while angels played restful harp music.
Are sweet potatoes potatoes?
I asked one and he said "I yam not".
