If you or anyone else is struggling to peel and chop a swede google singing swede.

It's how I cook swedes now and works a treat. I place mine on a paper serviette.

You can even sing along with it if you like. ;-)

is this an Abba thread?
I tried this having seen a previous post of yours, Gness. They come out ready mashed! Lovely.

That took me a minute, Jno. :-))

The come out beautifully don't they, Tilly. Love swede but hated chopping. This has saved many a finger.
Any tips for parsnips? I can't cut them either. In fact, I find most root vegetables difficult apart from carrots. (small ones)
Question Author
Only stab with a fork and cut lengthways but that isn't always easy. I'm told very young ones don't need peeling, just top cut off but haven't done that.
Great stuff, thanks, we do eat a lot of swede so will give it a go although I do need raw, chopped swede for stews and casseroles
I'll get Mr. T to do that. :-)
Just buy a frozen vegetable stew pack, Barry.
No, my swede is dug out of my garden
Fair enough Barry.
Question Author
Can't help with the swede for stews, Barry but do try this for mashed swede.
I like mashed swede with braising steak, also lamb. Good alternative to potatoes
Given the swede tip by a man who runs a vegetable processing plant near where I live - certainly makes life easier!

And safer, Hazlinny!
My youngest daughter does this, works a treat like Gness says.

I like to boil in carrot with it though so still in the pressure cooker for me. I have to cut it though if its a big swede.

There is only one Swedish chef ...

You could perhaps boil or steam some carrot, Youngmaf, then mash it in with the done swede.....maybe?

You're as bad as Jno, Ellipsis! :-)
I have just been out with Dylan and on the way back, called in the Coop for a swede! I got one that was reduced to 30p. So tonight, it's roast pork, bubble and squeak and mashed swede. :-)
Question Author
You could make a video of you cooking it, Tilly. Be better than some I found. :-)
I have just cooked my singing swede and it turned out lovely - very tasty. No sore hands from peeling and chopping. As OH and I both love swede we will have it more often now. Thanks for the brilliant tip.
