Klazo, the first word in 33 A gives the first letter (check Chambers!) of the answer and the following pairs of letters are famous cities in crossword terms. The definition is at the tail end.
That was my theory NAC (Just wasn't happy with the second two letters being 1 of 2)
I found the first letter in chambers. It can also be the first 3 letters (also in Chambers.
But thanks for your clarrification :-)
Thanks, Klazo, the three letter version of the single letter, for 33 A, doesn't frequent crosswords quite so often - I'd forgotten about it until you reminded me. I was heartily sick of the two cities for a while, they popped in all too often!
I didn't see us having to remove anything for 9 D, the first word of the clue just indicated a word that could be added to the rest of the answer. I thought it was quite crafty, sneaky, really.
Totally agree with the crafy bit (Very Un-Ximenean)
As is 30d (which I had missed off) the outer 3 letters does not have that definition IMO). (close, but not good enough)
I think Magoo has bent the rules a little today.
But hey-ho, It's put to bed now :-)
Tilly2, sorry to hear you're battling with this one. Mr Magoo is a tougher setter, but I've had lots of time to get used to him. Maybe you could focus on one corner, try to get one part resolved, with a little help from AB? Sometimes that's enough to give you a way in...
