Is there really a difference apart from taste between mineral water and tap water?

As tap water from different parts of the country contains varying amounts of disolved minerals, which people will call ''hard'' or ''soft'' water then there must be a difference to bottled mineral water also.

our tap water reeks of chlorine. We filter it to drink at home and use bottled water to take to work

I only drink bottled water if I go abroad, there's a definte taste difference, I even ask for tap water in a restaurant.

i buy the 18p bottles of table water as opposed to mineral water (most supermarket basic ranges have them) our water is absolutely foul and this is a cheaper option thn mineral water!

...and tap water doesn't come in a stinking lorry from France (or beyond), it doesn't need an environmentally dodgy plastic bottle and it isn't making vast profits for a handful of multinationals (Buxton, Perrier, Vittel and San Pellegrino all belong to Nestle, for example).

If your tap water is too chlorinated, try a water filter - it will soon pay for itself. If your water still doesn't taste good, try to get a water as local as possible to reduce transport. And just say "no" to premium brand water in restaurants. At my local Italian, San Pellegrino is more expensive than beer. How bizarre is that?

Our tap water tastes highly chlorinated and is very hard so we always use a filter when using water to boil a kettle. This also stops it from furring up, which it previously used to do on a regular basis.

I would agree that tap water is over-chlorinated but no filter can remove the chlorine. Apart from that I would always rather drink tap water than over-priced tap water put into bottles.. The public are so gullible.

I have bought bottled water for a couple of years but my husband likes tap water, so I thought I would try it. I fill up a large bottle from the tap and put it in the fridge and although we live in a hard water area, I am sure it tastes better than it used to a couple of years ago. Is it because it is ice cold? So now I don't buy bottled any more. Could we ever run out of commercialised natural water or is that a stupid question??
