I bought a packet of two the other day. They're nowhere near as big as I remembered and they're no longer cod.
If their size continues to shrink they'll soon be no bigger than fish fingers.
Is fish, in all its varieties, no longer affordable for some?

Sandy, if it says fish fillets on the box, it's pollock. If it says cod fillets, it's cod. At the moment, Tesco sell the fish fillets for £4 but the cod fillets are on special at £4.50, well worth the extra .50p. If you shop at Tesco, try their chunky cod fillets. They cost more than Birds Eye but the cod has always been lovely when I've bought them. They do battered...

There's a bandwagon to be jumped on for food manufacturers to reduce contents and maintain or increase profits.

No company will miss it as it passes.

I think one of the main fish replacements for cod and haddock is basa.

Unless the packet says 'cod' in big letters across the front it isn't cod.

I only buy wet fish. It's easy enough to batter/bread them yourself.

I won't eat panga or basa. I don't like the taste or texture of either. We do eat a lot of salmon, bass, trout, hake and haddock, and still enjoy cod loin.
I've just looked at Bird's Eye website and the breaded fish fillets are pollock - we used to call it coley.

As for frozen breaded fish products, too many companies think it is acceptable to label the product as 'white fish'. How is that legal? I can't buy a 'red meat' pie

They do battered and breaded at the same price.
Make sure it says chunky on the box.

Just them being racist I suppose, Barry. I'd complain in the strongest possible terms if I was you.
douglas, I like to know what I'm eating and some people are allergic to panga
Thanks for BA Sandy.

Catfish from the polluted waters of the Mekong Delta would present a real problem for the best advertising executives.
It'll be chunky cod for me from now on.
I don't mind pollock. We've been eating it for years. I usually buy from Morrisons.
