I remember very much enjoying this shop bought cake, we had it often, but I don't recall who made it.

Does anyone else remember it?

not sure I like the sound of that. Some things go well together (like pizza and pineapple), others feel a bit strange

I can't answer that,Barry, but embrace your Yorkshire bits (there must be some, we get everywhere) and try cheese  with friut-cake, or (swoon, to die for) apple pie.

Seriously, Mr. J2, who had met me in France and was a southerner (Devon, so forgiveable), politely listened to my  saying this combination was normal, but obviously disbelieved me, until we had a meal  in a cafe in Thirsk and he was offered dessert of apple pie - and could choose cream  or cheese!  Got'im!!  A ripe, room temp. Wensleydale is best.

Hope this helps a bit.

Never seen that, but fruit cake with a bit of strong cheddar and a glass of port is really my weakness.

You seem to be good at baking, have a go at making your own.

Never seen a cake like that, barry, but agree 100% with jourdain - a nice piece of moist fruit cake with a hunk of Wensleydale is to die for (you can add a glass of nice port to make it even better).

Barmaid's obviously a woman after my own heart. 😊

Not heard of a cake like that Barry, but I think I mentioned on another thread recently that the only time I eat a cheese sandwich, I eat it in a fruit teacake, Can't enjoy cheese in bread nearly as much.

Now I have to have some Christmas cake (yes really, I know it is April, but a rich fruit cake will keep for ages) with some cheese and port.  A moment on the lips and all that........

Buy a really good Wensleydale first, Barmaid.  The Hawes Creamery does good cheese.  Bring it to room temp. while you watch  the ruby of your glass of wine reflect the moist cake and ......

This  is almost food porn!
