This has been ongoing for weeks and now starts to look very much like Ukraine 2014.

The problem is Georgian politicians are very biddable. Georgian Dream are plainly in the pay of the Russian-leaning oligarch (can't be bothered looking up his name) and one consequence of this new law would be no independent foreign monitoring of the next elections.
And I think most reasonable goverments would balk at passing such an unpopular law, opposed by pretty much 90% of the electorate.
