many thanks cloverjo and neveracrossword - now I can throw in the towel content, though still wondering about the turkish sailors

Galiongees reversed

Question Author

wow jj how did you get that?

Thanks quinol, it was one of the last ones I got! I knew how the theme worked and I had most of the letters by then. Just then a case of looking it up to ensure it was a valid word!!!

Quinol, for the sailors... See is 'look', and it's reversed/back.Gal is the 'local girl' and Cion is the American child (scion is the usual English word) and the G is the first letter, heading of Genoa.  The C is the extra letter, so we end up with Gal ion G ees. And then it gets entered in reverse. What a clue - but a great word!

Question Author

Many thanks for parsing NAC, cion was one of my many never-heard-ofs

Thanks, Quinol, I had the C as the extra letter long before I had 'cion'! The C worked with what I already had, so I decided - eventually - to check Chambers.
