A cordial is an 'original' syrup that has roots in medicine - it would have been a concentrate, probably sweetened, given as a remedy for stomach ache or other complaint. Could have been herbal or fruit based.
Might not have been intended to be diluted, but probably would have been before drinking. Cordial can be extremely sweet nowadays and can be added to recipes for a 'fruit infusion'.
If it had alcohol in it, it would have been a liqueur of some sort - again, herbal or fruit base, with added essences and alcohol to get a tonic property.
A squash is a sweetened fruit juice, meant to be diluted before drinking.
