Egg alternative in a recepie

I am a vegetarian and do not even consume egg. A lot of recepies I have found on the net although vegetarian include an egg or two. Is there an alternative to an egg which will do the same job. i.e. even in a pastry there is egg to be used. Find me something that I could use instead.
