cheap alternative fuel.
most people are awair that a diesel engine will run on just about any type of refined oil.
in this age of fossil fuel shortages and massive costs, why do our government make it illegal to run on vegetable or sunflower oil ??
i know there is a self regulating system that a owner can apply to her majestys customs and excise, and ask to pay tax on the oil used.
my question is this. why should we HAVE to pay extra to save natural rescources ? my car could with a few minor adjustments, run on veggy oil at a fraction of the cost of standard fuel. as the owner of the vehicle, im free to choose any fuel supplier i want, so long as i pay @75pence pre litre in tax.
do our chosen leaders have the rights to introduce laws that force us, the working class, to spend money we could be using to better efect at home ??
initialy i paid more for a diesel engined car because it offers better economy than a petrol engine. now there is an alternative fuel, im not allowed to take advantage of it thanks to the people in power......

can you explain why my car is in the lower tax bracket ???? because its CLEAN...
THE DIESEL ENGINE HAS COME ALONG WAY SINCE IT WAS INVENTED.
It is not illegal to use vegetable oil, it is very clean with no harmful emissions and its use is encouraged. It is up to you whether you want to pay the lower rate of tax or nothing at all. There are penalties for not paying tax of course but the Customs trust you to declare your usage. I'm saying no more!
ok, just for the sake of clarifying a few things.
sunflower or veggy oil wont cause an engine to explode, thats a fact. the diesel engine works on compression, not a spark. the energy contained in fuel oils is minimal. petrol is far more explosive...
my car is a 2.0 hdi 110bhp. its not a small car, but it is clean.
peugeot can and do produce diesel engines that exhaust cleaner air than they take in through the air filter. fact !
I HOLD MY HANDS UP, I WAS WRONG IN MY ORIGINAL WORDING.
its not illegal to use veggy oil, only illegal to use it without informing HM customs. (following an amendment to fuel tax laws)
do any of us enjoy paying extra for fuel ? be it gas, electricity or car fuel. i for one dont. there is an alternative that does the job equally as well as diesel, but as usual the government choose to impose restrictions.
does anyone know what bus i need for the school run ??
Veggie oil contains more mosture than the fosil variety and will eventually corrode injectors, fuel lines and in the case of hdi (is that common rail diesel?) the high pressure components. Look on wikipedia. Maybe not bang given, but still expensive.
