As anybody else noticed that your greasy lil or lorry drivers cafes are dying out.I am not really into foreign food (that is spicy ) food i am traditional egg and chips roast dinners. Went into nearby town to eat all we found was your food chains pizza, or curry houses. What as happened to the cafes with the good old breakfast (don't like burger vans if can help it).Used to be one by us after you had a skinful on a friday at 2 in morning you would go for bacon sarnie. Have they disappeared in your town ?

Hi dot.hawkes , i don't mean the supermarket cafe things you know your proper old lorry drivers cafe grotty little places to look at the owner used to have fat all down the aprons but they served the best grub around gave you your money's worth. I went to one in november in morecambe (think that's why went back other week for grub} they stayed open in winter for the contractors you ought to see the size of the meals they gave all for 2.00 .now it's all your frozen rubbish.
i love a proper cafe - i live in brighton now but the cafes just aren't the same as the ones i loved in London (though I admit they were dying out even there) - they were ace and i crave them the morning after so bad it hurts...mmmm fried goodness.
went in one that looked right on the outside only to find it had table service and "specials" that included smoked salmon omelette I was disgusted!

When i travel to London by train , there is a great one just outside the station. It's cheaper than paying a fiver for a small slice of pizza by the trocadero .
there used to be a good one at Carr Mill just on the east lancs there, not sure if it is still there tho

I live on the suffolk/essec borders and i have to say there are loads of greasy spoons cafe's to choose from!

There is a local truckers cafe and local cafes that do fantastic fry ups - so I can't complain!!

The good old days hey gary baldy , It's making me want a bacon sarnie with brown sauce , no i'd better not .
There's a great traditional one in Brighton - the Market Diner. It stays open all night and according to many people, the Gut Buster is the best-known hangover prevention cure. I, of course, am such an angel that I would never get in such a state but it's certainly hugely popular and lots of people I know swear it's the business when it comes to greasy spoons.

Not being as angelic as Maxi ;-), I can tell you the Market Diner's the business. One newspaper reckoned it was in the top 10 caffs in the country.

There's a good one at the marina too (who'd a thunk it?), I think it's called Cafe Zio.

thanks maxi and homeresque
for the tip ... must say the gut buster is tempting me out... you shouldn't have mentioned that bacon sandwich inej!!!

Also for undercovers:

You know the Freemason's pub on Western Road? On the opposite corner there's the Naff Caff, well don't go there, go down that little street, about four doors down there's Michael's. That's a good breakfast in there.
