...it was strange, hmm dificult to explain, a bit more pepsi-ish, flat tasting with a hint of vanilla/sickly sweet taste, and a more fruity taste to it...

I never tried it. It didn't go down too well though. The public hated it and started panic buying Coke classic!! Two weeks later Coca-Cola had to bring back Coke classic because there were so many complaints and protests. In just two days after the announcement of bringing back Coca-Cola classic, Coca-Cola Company received 31,600 telephone calls on the hotline. New Coke was later renamed Coke II.
