A while ago someone at my slimming class had a list of things that coca cola was used for, such as cleaning car engines, etc. Some of the facts were shocking and made me wonder how they let you drink the stuff. Does anyone know of where I can find such a list? The people at work have no idea what I'm going on about.

Hi Milly. I think you'll find that Coca-Cola has no higher levels of edible acid than a lot of other food products; including fruit juices, buttermilk & other soft drinks. Coca-Cola don't sell their drink as anything other than a refreshment. Maybe it's true that it will add shine to your toilet, but probably no more than, say, vinegar. Certainly the myths about disappearing teeth etc. are just that - a myth.

I found nickmo's weblink very useful!! I hadn't realised that Coca-Cola was so functional!

Hi champs - I think the cleaning action comes from the amount of phosphoric acid the drink contains, and the only way you can drink the stuff is because of the equivalent of 9 tea spoons of sugar per can that counteracts the acid.

Thats why copper coins. etc get a cleaning in the stuff Don't think I'll be off to try it as a tanning aid though....

Nickmo, you're probably right. I don't Coke is a healthy drink, but it is a safe one. I don't drink Coca-Cola myself, but I will be trying out the drink on any grease stains on clothes!! I'll let you know if it's any good. ;o)

Other Coca-Cola myths include:-

- the drink was originally green in colour
- farmers can use it as pesticide for their crops
- Coka + MSG = Aphrodisiac

:o)

Champagne - Safe? In some countries, (though not the UK), Diet Coke cans bear the warning "Not suitable for children". Reports that Diet Coke can induce seizures have resulted in some airlines banning pilots from drinking it!
If you look at the ingredients you will find something that's called phosphoric acid. They put it in to stop Coke looking like murky pond water and is the same stuff cleaners use to clean metal urinals.
Coca Cola is more acidic than vinegar.
