The most well-known white beer, in this country, is Hoegarden (from Belgium). It's got a much better 'edge' to its taste than Kronenbourg Blanc and is widely regarded as being a superior product. (Last summer I was drinking Hoegarden in a backstreet bar in Ostend. I explained to the landlord that white beers are becoming increasingly available, on draught, in the UK. I casually mentioned that some pubs now sell the French Kronenbourg Blanc. He instantly turned purple, slammed his fist down on the bar and shouted, in perfect English, "Cow's P!ss". By comparison with Hoegarden, I think that I'd have to agree with him!).
If you're actually in a Belgian bar (either in Belgium or somewhere like 'The Belgian Monk' in Norwich), look out for Brugs on draught. This is also to be recommended.
Some of the best white beers available in this country are only in bottles. Tesco sell a good Ukrainian one and Morrisons have quite a large range. One of my favourites, which is becoming increasingly available in pubs, is the German white beer, Erdinger.
Enjoy your white beer but please try something better than Kronenbourg Blanc!
