A friend of min once told me that our bodies can't handle sweetcorn and i donesn't get digested. Is this true? If it is then why does the government say it counts as one of your 5 a day fruit portions if it doesn't get digested and goes straight through?

sweetcorn and tomato pips are not digestable and with out being disgusting they are recycleable....sorry just trying to be funny

Boring techy answer is that corn has a very low amount of one of the amino acids that are needed to absorb the protein / nutritional value of corn by humans. As we can't absorb it into the system, it leaves much as it goes in.

Good source of fibre and lots of potential for toilet humour....

we can digest sweetcorn - just not the outer skin, which more or less seals the kernel up.

unless you chew the sweetcorn properly, splitting the skin of each kernel, then it won't digest.

you will inevitably miss a few but as long as most are chewed it should be fine

so just chew it well or give it a bit of a chop or crush before serving

havnt u eva seen it in ur poo?? sorry...LoL

ha ha, not as bad as seeing it in someone elses....(cue a well told urban myth)

So thats why sweetcorn always turn up in if you throw up?? lol
Follow joko's advice and chew it - delicious. You will still spot the odd yellow kernel in the bowl in the morning but not a tin full.
