Years ago a friend of mine served me some sort of thick Italian sausage (on a bed of green lentils) - it was delicious. I think it came vacuum packed in a box and you boiled it and it's possible the name began with a 'c'. Does anyone know what it might be and where I can buy it?

Not Italian but could it have been Chorizo?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorizo

There is a spicy, soft sausage called "cotechino" cot-ter-cheeno.

Was it a big one that she cut up into rounds? or did you get a sausage or two each?

I think it's probably the cotechino you've had, as it's cooked with lentils and traditionally eaten on new years eve - for good luck! I think the lentils represent money.

I've never bought one here but should be available at a good italian deli. ( if you're lucky enough to have one! )

ther is place online who have it

www.italianfooddirect.com and search cotechino.

it is cotechino-(cot-e-keeno)

there is a company called Continental wine and food in Newcastle, Huddersfield, Edinburgh and Glasgow, who supply it to restaurants
