Bit like kimchi - Korean staple food - pickled spicy cabbage. And there is a kimchi museum in Seoul that defines over 180 versions.
Pickled/fermented cabbage can be found all over Europe - sauerkraut, choucroute from Germany/France (I had this on holiday in France, and didn't much enjoy it, although admittedly it was shrink-wrapped witha sausage, from a supermarket), and Eastern Europe. I should think you'd be able to find a jar in your supermarket these days.

Thanks for all your answers; I have had sauekraut, but, is that the same as pickled lettuce? I'm not sure lettuce and cabbage are from the same family, certainly, crop rotation doesn't suggest so?

Maybe it is? I shall have a look in Tescos next time I go into town.

Cheers dears...
