Just a few ideas I would buy plain sponge rolls from the supermarket small ones for the wheels and then a large one placed at right angles on top of the wheels. A rectangel sponge at the back for the tender I am sure yopu can find a picture of Thomas and decorate accordingly
Morrisons sell them too !!

thanyou all for your replies. Love to make my own cakes so keen to have a go, but if I fail I will be straight to Tescos
This site has a nice option - use a round log and a square shape for the main body, and add the detail with piped icing and coloured icing pens for the detail: http://www.coolest-kid-birthday-parties.com/ch ild-birthday-cakes.html

Should be reasonably ok to make - or just make a plain white base and 'draw' on some tracks and tell him the train is on the way . . . . or stick on a mini/toy train - or is that too cruel . . . ?
Hi there. I have the 'Favourite Character Cakes' book by Debbie Brown and if you can get hold of it, there is a lovely Thomas the Tank cake. It's actually shown on the front cover. I bought my book from e-bay and it only cost me 3.50 - well worth getting all of Debbie Brown books if you make party cakes. This particular one has also got Postman Pat, Forever Friends, Snoopy, Noddy and loads more. You could ask your local library if they have it. Difficult to explain it all here, you need to see the pictures. If you get stuck, I could e-mail the instuctions to you.

Jan L, thankyou so much I will definitely look out for the book it sounds as if I would find it a useful edition to my cake books.
