Ddoes anyone remember Ayton Sandwich biscuits I loved these biscuits and can remember buying them from bakers van where they would open a packet and sell them singly...would not be likely to happen now
I used to love those biscuits with two cows on the front, also the ringed ones coated with pastel coloured sugar icing. Used to like iced gems in primary school, yum!
I can't remember Ayton biscuits but do remember Huntley and Palmers Breakfast biscuits ..sort of a square biscuit rounded off at the corners with HP baked into them. They were delicious and as child I used to love them with butter and jam. I haven't seen them for years.
Ayton sandwich were diamond shaped a sandwich biscuit like a penguin....delicious...mind you this was late 50s early 60s everything tasted better then.....
Ayton Sandwiches Mmmm. they were made by Beaties Biscuits, in Drumchapel,Glasgow, but when the factory closed the biscuits disapeared. they were a diamond shaped biscuit, chocolate in colour with a chocolate cream filling, and the bottom part of the sandwich was coated in milk chocolate.
Does anyone have a recipe, then again I think it may only be a variation of a 'bourbon cream'. But Diamond shaped and chocolate coated.
I remember them fondly. the wee shop where I bought them when I was about 6 used to sell a bag of broken biscuits and it was pure bliss if you got some Ayton Sandwich biscuits in the bag. I wonder if we would still like them now or if they are better left to fond memories!
NorthsideR: You mite have good idea there? Bourbon Biscuit & cover it in milk chocolate & let it set? That sounds a mighty nice snack :) Any 1 else think s?
