Italian Drink - Limoncino

We bought a bottle of Limoncino in Italy, because we were told it was very good, but we aren't sure how it's supposed to be served. Neat with ice - or with a mixer? Help please.

It goes on to say:
"Serve small glasses of chilled limoncello after meals or drizzle it over berry sorbet or over poundcakes. You can make girly drinks with it, too, but please don't tell me about it!"
So it seems that, as with most drinks, it all comes down to personal taste.

Don't know about Limoncino, but if it's a lemon liquor like Limoncello, It's great served cold from the fridge, over really good vanilla ice-cream, with amaretti biscuits on the side. You can also use it to soak sponge cake in as the basis for a lemon syllabub trifle. Oh, and straight from the fridge, in a cold glass, neat down your neck isn't bad, either! I've got a recipe for home-made version if anyone's interested?

6 unwaxed lemons
750ml vodka (use the cheapest you can find)
220g sugar (I used Fairtrade golden granulated, but any will do)
225ml water
the recipe takes about 4 weeks - but it's worth it!
Pare the rinds from the unwaxed lemons and place in a jar. I used a 1 pint preserving jar with a screw top. Cover with half the vodka and screw the lid on. Store for 14 days in a cool place, shaking the jar every day.
On the 14th day, make a sugar syrup with the sugar and water and let it get absolutely cold. If you don't, the limoncello will be cloudy. Once it's cold, mix the sugar syrup with the lemon flavoured vodka and top up with the other half of the vodka. Leave the rinds in. Screw the lid on again, and leave for 10 days in a dark place, shaking the jar every day. At the end of the 10 days, strain the flavoured vodka into a sterilised bottle (or bottles). Ready to drink from this point! Enjoy!
